Why use Oled?

OLED displays do not require backlighting to function as they emit visible light on their own. Therefore, it displays a deep black color and is thinner and lighter than a liquid crystal display (LCD). OLED screens can achieve higher contrast under low light conditions, such as in dark rooms.

Lower costs in the future

In the future, OLEDs are expected to be printed onto any suitable substrate through inkjet printers or even screen printing, theoretically making their production cost cheaper than LCD displays.

Light-weight flexible plastic substrate

OLED displays can be manufactured on flexible plastic substrates, allowing for the production of flexible organic light-emitting diodes for other new applications, such as rolled up displays embedded in fabrics or clothing. If substrates such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET) can be used, display screens can be produced in a low price. In addition, unlike glass displays used in LCD devices, plastic substrates resist breaking.

Better picture quality

Compared to LCD, OLED has higher contrast and wider viewing angle because OLED pixels directly emit light. Due to the black background not emitting light, this also provides a deeper black level. In addition, even if the viewing angle is close to 90 degrees from the normal, the OLED pixel color appears correctly without offset.

Better energy efficiency and thickness

LCD filters the light emitted by the backlight, allowing only a small portion of the light to pass through. Therefore, they cannot display true black. However, unactivated OLED pixels do not generate light or consume power, thus achieving true black color. Removing backlighting can also make OLEDs lighter as they do not require a substrate.

Quicker response time

The response time of OLED is also much faster than LCD. By using response time compensation technology, the fastest modern LCD can have a response time as low as 1 millisecond, achieving the fastest color conversion.
